Dr. Shanna Benjamin, Ph.D, Associate Professor, Grinnell College
is Associate Professor of English. A literary critic, biographer, and specialist in African American literature and culture, Dr. Benjamin studies the literature and lives of black women. She has published in MELUS, African American Review, Studies in American Fiction and PMLA. She teaches surveys in African American literature and nineteenth-century American literature and, seminars on neo-slave narratives and black women writers, and Mellon Mays workshops on preparing for the professoriate. Dr. Benjamin is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Johnson C. Smith University.
