Dr. Jane Rhodes, Ph.D, Department Head, University of Illinois at Chicago
is Department Head and Professor of African American Studies. Dr. Rhodes is a mass media historian with a specialization in African American history and culture, focusing on the study of race, gender, the history of the black press, media and social movements, and African American women’s history. She has published a number of books and articles, was the Joy Foundation Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, and a visiting fellow at the University of Cambridge. Professor Rhodes is a graduate of Syracuse University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
